Casting Veterans that live within a particular vicinity allows for the team to capture the Veteran in his or her environment. Capturing the Veterans in their own environments rather than on a sound stage or unrelated location humanizes the story. It will also open up the possibility for interviewing relatives, friends and, or colleagues of the Veterans to help tell a more complete story of the Veterans’ challenge with PTSD.
Allotting a single day for each Veteran is an important choice in maximizing the success of the videos. The time allotted with the Veterans will allow us to build rapport before the filming begins. It will allow for interview sessions that aren’t rushed and will reduce the pressure on the Veterans. It will also allow us the time to capture B-roll footage of the Veteran in his or her environment to avoid talking heads and capture a complete picture of the Veteran.
